A comprehensive view of the work of the giant of nineteenth-century Canadian photography. With his sons and protégés, Notman had studios in Boston and Albany, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, St. John, encompassing some 23 studios, 16 of which were in the United States. The family firm stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the mid-1800s through the 1930s.
