"Edward "Ed" Hutchins, a practitioner of "guerrilla bookmaking" where, "everyone is a maker of books because everyone has a story to tell." ("Books From The Heart: An Interview with Edward H. Hutchins", Movable Book Society Newsletter, 1993). His books come in all forms; miniatures, pop-up, pop out, movables, accordion folded, and shaped, made from a variety of common materials, often enhanced with humorous stamped images. Anne Anninger, Houghton Library, Philip Hofer Curator of Printing & Graphic Arts, said "... Hutchins little books made the point: begin with a deep concern for human issues and a strong sense of empathy, and express them in a few simple words; add funky imagery; present the whole in a unique, humorous, and expressive structure, which requires years of experience yet the irreverence of youth,,,Impossible, you say? Not for Ed Hutchins." (Hutchins, Edward H. (1999) Thinking editions; an exhibition of artist book multiples. p. 3.)

The recipient of this mass of materials was R. H. (Pete) Starr, a developmental psychologist, a collector of artists' books, a frequent participant in bookmaking workshops, and as expressed in the correspondence from Hutchins, a valued customer and friend.
