Oliver M. Spencer, his sisters and parents were among the earliest settlers in Cincinnati; on July 4, 1792 he was captured by the Swanee at Fort Washington, and spents nearly eight months among them before being ransomed and released. His narritive includes details of his journey home through Detriot. First published in 1835, this is an undated latert printing; the American Antiquarian Society dates this printing between 1857 - 1868 when the publisher, Carlton & Porter are listed as agents for the Sunday Schoool Union of the Methodist Episcopal Church in New York City directories. Earlier printings are listed by Howes, Ayer Collection, Field and Graff.
