A most important manual that covers all processes being practiced during this period with hundreds of emulsion processes and developers detailed in full. Also includes unusual approaches such as beer and coffee preservatives and how to color (safelight) darkroom windows. Abney made important contributions in the field, i.e. hydroquinone as developer [1880] and silver gelatino citrochloride printing-out paper.

Roosens and Salu No. 3516 calls this the second edition and fails to note the 1883 Scovil printing, which is an exact replical of this edition.
