First edition. 8vo., xv, 290 pp., frontispiece with tissue guard, 75 illustrations, which include b&w plates from photographs, and 2 folding maps, pictorial endpapers, t.e.g. Publisher's dark green cloth, slight rubbing to the lettering on the spine, with the slightest of wear to the crown; slight scratch to the front board. A nonauthorial gift inscription on the first blank flyleaf reads: "To / Theron T. Chapman / This story of an astounding / adventure is also an interesting/ reminder of the ship loads / of whale meat you and I / have brought up from / South Georgia Island. / G. A. Chapman / Christmas 1937." The text, plates and maps are fine and bright. A very good to near fine copy. Item #53946
