On the front free endpaper, Louis Walton Sipley has inscribed this copy to Lloyd E. Varden. Lloyd E. Varden was an accomplished photo-chemist, working for Agfa Ansco, then at Pavelle Color Labs in New York City. He subsequently went out on his own as a consultant to most of the major photographic and related companies throughout the world, while also serving as an adjunct professor at Columbia University. His personal library on photography was second only to that of the Eastman Kodak Company.
