PALANTE (the Spanish equivalent of "Right On" or "Forward") is a book about the Young Lords Party, a revolutionary political organization, which was formed in New York in 1969 and whose influence spread to Puerto Rican communities throughout the country. Abramson's photos and interviews document the Young Lords' political and social views, demonstrations, occasional police brutality, living conditions, social problems and solutions. Abramson, a freelance photojournalist since 1970, has work published in TIME, THE NEW YORK TIMES, etc. and has worked on assignment for Black Star. PALANTE is his first book, followed by INSIDE LAS VEGAS (text by Mario Puzo), OUR PORTION OF HELL, etc.
