A long and unbroken run from Vol. 1, No. 1, October 10, 1884 - Vol. 30, No. 795, December 29, 1899. A few volumes show early dampstaining, and all volumes have been newly bound in quarter cloth and paper over board with paper spine label, t.e.g. Each volume is comprised of 26 weekly issues, the the original wrappers bound-in Vol. 1. This set was acquired from the British Patent Office and bears their stamp throughout. Item #29570

Comprised of letters to the editor, reviews of salons and photographic societies, short articles on technique, photographic artistry, and other practical aspects of the medium. P. H. Emerson was a frequent contributor, as was H. P. Robinson. A. Horsley Hinton, a founding member of the Linked Ring took over the editorship in 1893. Illustrated with line drawings and woodcuts, with the halftone illustrations appearing with improved clarity and frequency in later issues.

Merged with THE PHOTOGRAPHIC NEWS on May 12, 1908, and continued publication as THE AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER AND PHOTOGRAPHIC NEWS.
