Samuel Humphrey published his first manual in 1849 and the first photographic magazine in the world THE DAGUERREIAN JOURNAL, 1850, both of which were key influences in the spread of the process in the U.S. His first manual was 81 pp., reprinted again in 1849, with a third edition in 1853. This, the fifth edition, with a new title, is considerably enlarged and improved.
