Sir Joseph Wilson Swan, 1828-1914, was an English physicist and chemist who invented the Autotype (a carbon process), and the dry photographic plate, which was an important improvement in photography, instrumental in the development of modern photographic film. Additionally, he was instrumental in the development of the incandescent eoectric light.
