Luis Nadeau's ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PRINTING, PHOTOGRAPHIC, AND PHOTOMECHANICAL PROCESSES, defines: "Galvanography ... Name given to a variety of processes that utilized the electro plating of a mold. A synonym for ELECTROTYPE." The process by which copper plates for the daguerreotype are coated with silver, as well as a process for making plates suitable for intaglio printing from original daguerreotypes. Lerebours, the publisher of this manual also the published EXCURSIONS DAGUERRIENNES, 1842, which contains three plates which were printed directly from the original daguerreotype plates using the galvanoplastic process developed by H. Fizeau.
