One plate shows moderate wear along the blank foredge; there is occasional light staining to a few tissue-guards and text leaves; a.e.g. Full blind embossed brown morocco, with brass clasp as issued. Howes C-363; Truthful Lens 30. There are 108 biographies of which 95 are illustrated in our copy. The Chicago Historical Society copy has the same compliment of 95 portraits and one view, most other known copies have less portraits, there are no copies with more portraits. This is commonly regarded as the first "Mug Book".
